My name is Elaine Sanger, the Executive Director of Pilotage International.

People ask me whether they have to know Spanish to live here.  After moving here from Chicago, I have found that learning Spanish is truly an asset to enjoying my new culture.

I started learning Spanish before I moved here.  However, like me, you will find that the Spanish generally taught outside the Dominican Republic is not what the majority of people are speaking in Punta Cana and Bavaro. 

Dominican Spanish is different than all the rest.  It is considered the fastest spoken Spanish in the world!  It is a language of truncating syllables, adding various endings and local slang.
Then you will hear people speaking Russian, German, French, Creole, Italian, English, and Portuguese.  You will find you are living in an international community!,
Don’t be dismayed.  There is help! 

These are some of the reasons my husband Charles and I started Pilotage Institute in Bavaro.  Whether your native language is English or Russian, whether you studied Spanish in high school or whether you are an absolute beginner, we can help you. 

In our classes you will get a proper Spanish foundation, learn the basics so you can get around town and be introduced to the Dominican slang and culture. 

All this in a friendly, international atmosphere for adult learning.  Small classes.  New friends. Quality materials.  Fun and laughter and Experienced teachers.
